What is FODT?

OpenDocument Flat XML (FODT) is a plain-text XML representation of ODT documents, ideal for version control and automated processing.

What is PPSM?

PPSM (application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.slideshow.macroenabled.12) uses lossless compression optimized for interactive kiosks, automated presentations with macros. PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Slideshow, slideshow with macros

When Should You Use FODT vs PPSM?

FODT vs PPSM: Key Differences

• •The core technical difference: FODT relies on lossless compression whereas PPSM uses lossless compression.
• •Both formats share lossless compression, so quality behavior is similar across the two — file size differences come from algorithm efficiency rather than compression philosophy.
• •How transparency is handled: PPSM supports transparency, so alpha information is preserved during conversion.
• •PPSM files tend to be differently sized than FODT
• •Use case fit: FODT targets version control, xml processing of documents and PPSM targets interactive kiosks, automated presentations with macros — your choice depends on which workflow stage you are serving.

Advantages of FODT

• ✓FODT applies lossless compression specifically calibrated for Version control, XML processing of documents.
• ✓FODT enjoys broad native support across operating systems, browsers, and creative tools alike.
• ✓FODT guarantees every bit of the original data survives — no approximations, no shortcuts.
• ✓You will find FODT support built into virtually every tool that handles Version control, XML processing of documents — no plugins or converters needed.

Advantages of PPSM

• ✓The lossless nature of PPSM means file sizes stay reasonable while handling Interactive kiosks, automated presentations with macros efficiently.
• ✓From mobile devices to enterprise servers, PPSM is recognized and supported everywhere.
• ✓The trade-off for PPSM's perfection is larger files — but for archival work, it is worth every megabyte.
• ✓PPSM is a first-class citizen in all major software ecosystems, from creative suites to development environments.
